BeerFest, Bonfires, and 8 More Things to Do in Detroit This Week

It's the third week in September and don't let the Midwest weather fool you; Fall is here. Autumn's arrival brings the promise of piles of fallen leaves, all of the spookiness of Halloween, and pumpkin-spice everything. In case none of those sound appealing to you, don't worry--you came to the right place.

  1. Silent Disco Happy Hour Date: Monday, Sept. 23, 2019 Time: 5:00 P.M.- 8:00 P.M. Location: 22 John R Street, Detroit Cost: FREE If you've never been to a silent disco, it might be a little weird to walk into a party full of people dancing and not hear any music playing. All of the partygoers receive wireless headphones tuned to the DJ's playlist when they enter, allowing everyone to party together. When you add in a happy hour, three different DJ's, and food and drinks, this whole event sounds like an immersive experience. If you're interested, act fast--this is the last happy-hour/fundraiser that @cityglowyoga will be organizing this year.

  2. Menopause, The Musical Date: Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2019- Thursday, Sept. 26, 2019 Time: 8:00 P.M.- 10:00 P.M. Location: 15801 Michigan Ave, Detroit Cost: $45-$60 Whether you've gone through The Change or not, Menopause, The Musical will have something for you. The stage play has had fifteen million fans worldwide and has been in production for more than eighteen years. Grab a ticket for you and a friend and slide through.

  3. Rooftop Yoga at the GMRencen Date: Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2019 Time:5:30 P.M.- 6:30 P.M. Location: 521 Atwater Street, Detroit Cost: FREE (12 and under must be with parent) Yoga is a physical, mental, and spiritual exercise in balance and meditation. What could be more tranquil than doing the downward-facing dog while overlooking the gorgeous Detroit skyline from the top of the RenCen fitness center roof? If interested, register for a spot online and start stretching.

  4. Memoirs of a Tuskegee Airman Date: Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2019 Time: 7:30 A.M. - 6:00 P.M. Location: 7000 Roosevelt Ave, Detroit Cost: $116 (Includes Transportation, admission to all attractions and lunch) Here's an event for all you history buffs out there. Hear firsthand account from WWII Pilot Dr. Harold Brown and his time being taken as a prisoner of war. Also scheduled visits to Rutherford B. Hayes' Presidential Home, Our Lady of the Pines Retreat Center, Liberty Aviation Museum, and Marblehead Lighthouse.

  5. Valee @ El Club Date: Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2019 Time: 7:00 P.M. Location: 4114 Verner Highway, Detroit Cost: $69-$338 The Chicago-native rapper, Valee, will be in Detroit at El Club this week along with other acts such as Lana Ladonna and ImBunLee. If you're familiar with their sounds, or if you're looking to hear some good music, grab a ticket ASAP before the prices go up.

  6. KWYP Detroit Launch Party! Date: Thursday, Sept. 26, 2019 Time: 4:00 P.M. - 7:00 P. M. Location: 526 S Main St, Royal Oak Cost: FREE (Accepting donations) KWYP Detroit is a collaborative group made up of young leaders that are trying to inspire growth within their communities. You can learn more about opportunities within their organization and celebrate with them at their launch party. They will have drinks, a TACO BAR, dueling pianos, a photo booth, and--did I say taco bar already? What are you still reading for? Go register!

  7. Hatch Contest Top 10 Gala Date: Friday, Sept. 27, 2019 Time: 6:30 P.M.- 9:30 P. M. Location: 52 East Forest Ave, Detroit Cost: $20- $150 *Attire is business casual The Comerica Hatch Detroit Contest has grown over eight years to be one of the city's biggest contests for entrepreneurs. This event will introduce the top ten contestants and their concepts to the public. Come out and be the first to see who made it to the final rounds. There will be a live DJ, food and drinks.

  8. A Very Fall Pop-Up: Comedy & Bonfire Date: Friday, Sept. 27, 2019 Time: 7:00 P.M. - 1:00 A.M. Location: 5141 Rose Parks Blvd, Detroit Cost: $10 AWOL Theater Co. has another one of their comedy shows this week at SpreadArt. Their show will feature improv, stand-up, and there will be a bonfire after the show--as long as the weather permits. Drinks will be available and there will be more than a few laughs to go around.

  9. Baby And Beyond Expo Date: Saturday, Sept. 28, 2019 - Sunday, Sept. 29th, 2019 Time: 10:00 AM - 4:00 P.M. Location: 5020 John R Street Cost: $12-$55 The Metro Detroit Baby and Beyond Expo is where expecting parents and those adding to their homes can go to discover new products and dozens of vendors that provide a family-friendly environment to learn about pre- and post-pregnancy resources. Whether you're buying a ticket for you, a mother you know that's expecting, or your friend with baby fever, everyone can learn something from here.

  10. Boathouse Beerfest Restoration Fundraiser Date: Saturday, Sept. 28, 2019 Time: 3:00 P.M.- 7:00 P.M. (VIP starts at 2) Location: E Picnic Way, Detroit (Bell Isle Boat House) Cost:$45-$65 Boathouse Beerfest, it just sounds right. Ten beer sampling tickets, a commemorative glass and a keepsake photo all are included in the price of admission. Those that splurge on the VIP purchase get to arrive an hour earlier for an exclusive sampling, five extra drink tickets, and express entry. If the allure of beer on a boat wasn't enough to entice you. There also will be a live performance and the proceeds received will be used to restore and return the Bell Isle Boat House back to its former beauty. Slide and do your part--with beer.
